baptism Baptized in the Holy Spirit Part 3 of 3
Daily Golden Footprints Baptized in the Holy Spirit Part 3 of 3 This is part 3 of the Word from yesterday… Praying in tongues gives spiritual refreshing. (Isa 28:11) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. (Isa 28:12) To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.. What is the rest that this _script_ure is talking about? It is speaking in other tongues. Sometimes a doctor will recommend a rest cure for some ailment. They often prescribe a vacation to get away from all their stresses. You can take your “Rest Rx” right there at home. This is the rest. This is the refreshing. We need this spiritual R and R (rest & recuperation) in these last days when the world waxes worse and worse as the end is getting nearer every day. Tongues are for giving thanks (1Co 14:15) What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1Co 14:16) Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? (1Co 14:17) For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. When Paul called them unlearned in verse 16, he was speaking of the baby Christians who had not learned about Spiritual things yet. If I asked you to give the blessing and you did it in tongues, no one would understand it. You must pray in English in that situation so that everyone is blessed. In verse 17, Paul offered that praising God in Tongues is a perfect praise unto God. In verse 17, he said “Thou givest thanks well.” In the presence of people who are unlearned, Paul said it was better that you pray in your  natural language so that everyone is edified. They need to understand what you say. You don’t preach in tongues. If you did that no one would be edified. You pray in the Holy Ghost when you are home alone usually. It is for your personal edification. Occasionally I have seen people get a burden to pray in the spirit in agreement. That is ok from time to time if there are no unbelievers or babies there. Speaking in Tongues brings the tongue under subjection to the Holy Spirit. Learning to yield your tongue to the Holy Spirit as you pray in the Holy Ghost in tongues is a step toward yielding your whole self to God including your tongue. If we can learn to yield the most unruly member of our bodies to the Holy Spirit, then we can yield our whole selves to the Holy Spirit. (Jas 3:8) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. One of the most important revelations in the Word of God is about learning to speak what the Holy Spirit leads you to speak and create the same way that God did by speaking. In the first Chapter of Genesis, we see the account of the creation of the world. God spoke and it was done. Again and again, God spoke and created. He told us in (Gen 1:26) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Since we are created in the image of God and He gave the world to us according to verse 26, we are to create the same way that God created. He spoke and it was created. We are to speak and then it is to be manifested. Of course it is then God doing the manifesting. We are to speak His will and His way. It is only then the Lord will work with us by confirming His Word with signs following. (Mar 16:20) And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. He only guarantees the fulfillment of His promises to those who are obedient to Him. (Deu 30:19) I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. (Rom 10:13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Death and life are expressed with your tongue. You have to choose and then act on the Word of God. When the Word said be doers of the word and not just hearers, he was first talking about speaking the word and then doing those things that you can do. Of course you cannot live in sin, but He wants you to notice what you are allowing to come out of your mouth. It set on fire the course of nature. (Jas 3:6) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. When it is subjected to the Holy Spirit, then it speaks the will and the way of God. It builds you up and makes you stronger to speak the right things when you do speak in your known language. Don’t kid yourself. If you cannot control your tongue, you need not think that you will receive anything from God. (Jas 1:6) But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (Jas 1:7) For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. (Jas 1:8) A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. You cannot be preaching (speaking) in one way and then acting in another. There is something very wrong when a preacher gets up and preaching God can do anything. God will heal you. God will deliver you and then says (1) I never get the miracles. (2)I guess I just didn’t get healed today. (3) I never get enough money to pay my bills. (4) This is always happening to me. Count on it. Don’t ask God for something and then negate it all with your own words. …Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matt 12:34). If what you are speaking isn’t speaking the  will and the way of God, then input some more word inside of you. Import more of Him inside of you. Jesus was the word made flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14). Pray in tongues and renew yourself in the Word of God as well.. Faith comes from hearing the Word (Romans 10:17) and praying in tongues (thru the Baptism) (Jude 20). This next _script_ure calls your religion vain or empty of substance when you don’t bridle your tongue. It is not that you can’t. It is because you won’t bridle your tongue. You do your part and God does His part. (Jas 1:26) If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.. Your mouth was not created to speak life and death at the same time. He gave you a free will to choose life. Let your mouth know what your real choice is. Then Jesus can take it to the Father and manifestations will happen then. (Jas 3:10) Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Your choice of words is your thermometer of faith. Here are some good _script_ures about the importance of speaking God’s will and God’s way. (Pro 18:21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Again and again He tells you to “say” to create. (Mar 11:22) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. (Mar 11:23) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. (Mar 11:24) Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Speak in faith that which is supposed to be. (Rom 4:17) ...and calleth those things which be not as though they were. One of the ways to build your faith is to pray in Tongues. It energizes your spirit like plugging in a rechargeable battery to a power source. Of course faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). My pastor uses the example many times of a man walking on two legs. He can get around really well when he is walking on both legs. Without one of them, he would just be hopping along. Think of one leg being the Word of God and the other one prayer (or speaking His Word). When you have it both ways, you have a strong and stable stride. It is the same way in the spirit. When you are renewed in the Word of God daily and pray through daily, you stride in good as you go in this faith walk. There is a public side to speaking in Tongues. We have mostly been talking about tongues in our prayer life. Speaking in Tongues is also used in public ministry. First of all, when people are filled with the Holy Spirit, they pray in tongues in front of others as the spirit gives them utterance. Secondly the congregation is edified when there is a message in tongues and it is interpreted. To prophesy is to speak to men to edification, exhortation and comfort (1 Cor 14:3). He went on to say that it is “Greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interprets. (1 Cor 14:5)” The Apostle Paul was saying that tongues plus interpretation = prophecy. Prophesy is not the same as preaching. If it were, you would never have to prepare another lesson. Paul told us to “Study to make yourselves approved unto God… (2 Timothy 2:15). You do not have to study to speak in tongues or to interpret. These come only by inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Sometimes when a preacher is preaching, he will suddenly say things that he had no knowledge of in the natural. That is an element of prophesying. Tongues plus interpretation does edify the church. When it is an accurate Word and done in line with the Word of God, it can encourage and convict someone unto repentance and then they return to God. When I was unconscious in the hospital after a stroke, they told me that one day I sat up in bed and spoke right out to a nurse. The message was you want God to bless you, but that won’t happen until you quit living with that man that you are not married to. In just a couple of days, when I was out of the coma and she came in to report that she had removed the man from her house. Now God could bless her. That had been a word of knowledge. It was a real miracle as well because at all other times I was in a coma and unable to speak. It got her attention. I got many visits from doctors and nurses all over Baylor hospital who wanted to see “the miracle lady.” God had truly given me a miracle and used me to bring a miracle into someone else’s life through  the Word of Knowledge. In Mark 16:17, the word says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name they shall cast out devils.” That can be private or public. Then the _script_ure goes on in the next verse to say, “They shall speak with new Tongues…” That too can be private or public. Of course it is not the proper thing to do, to have prolonged prayer in tongues in the middle of a service because it doesn’t edify anyone. You should have already built yourself up when you first go there. It is certainly all right to pray in tongues in the altar service because you go there to be edified. If other people are lifting up their hands and praying in a service, it is ok to pray in tongues then as well. When the congregation ceases praying, you cease praying in tongues. Going on and on in tongues does not bring edificaiton to the body as whole. We do need to learn to use what we have to the greatest advantage. 1. Speaking in Tongues is for every believer. 2. Speaking in Tongues are the initial sign of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost 3. Speaking in Tongues edifies the one who is speaking in tongues. 4. Speaking in Tongues gives spiritual refreshing. 5. Speaking in Tongues + interpretation =prophesy. 6. Speaking in Tongues allows you to pray according to the perfect will of God 7. Speaking in Tongues allows us to pray correctly when we don’t know how or what to pray. 8. You must be saved to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 9. The Holy Spirit gives you the words to utter, but you must utter them. 10. Speaking in Tongues reminds you that He is living inside of you. It is not so easy to sin. 11. Praying in Tongues stimulates your faith. 12. Praying in Tongues can help keep you from worldly contaminations. 13. Speaking in Tongues can also be used for giving thanks unto God. The Holy Spirit will comfort you, lead you, teach you, enable you, build you up, enlighten you, brings revelation of the Word of God, and so much more.. You really, need to be filled to the overflow with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I often compare it to pushing a new Cadillac or when you start the engine and drive it. It is so much easier to drive it than push it. You might manage to get along a little ways, but not far and it is so difficult. When that engine is purring, it can go full speed ahead. Also there is an old joke about a simple minded man who was given a chain saw to cut down trees. At the end of the day all the workers came back in to headquarters for a meeting. For encouragement, they were each to report just how many they cut down that day. This new guy was supposed to be a very real whiz of a lumber jack, but he only reported cutting down two in the whole day. The boss looked at his chain saw. He said “Let me check it out to see if anything is wrong with it.” He pulled on the starter chord. There was a loud buzz and it started right up. The simple man said “Wow, what was that?” He has been cutting them down by hand using a saw without turning the engine on. He had not known that the engine was even available to him. Many of today’s Christians are trying to cut work in their own strength when the Baptism of the Holy Spirit has been available to them all along. They don’t know what they are missing. If there was ever something you really must have in your life, it is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit after salvation. Fighting the enemy is tough when you are empowered by the Holy Spirit. It is next to impossible when you are not. Next you need to be grounded in faith. However, we will go there another day. I suggest that you make yourself a notebook out of this teaching and then read all that is written about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Look up each _script_ure reference and study them out. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). See what God says about speaking in tongues. The Lord had me to make a notebook out of basic teachings such as this and use tabs on the beginning to separate them. I did one on healing, then speaking the Word, and salvation, for example. When I was witnessing to someone, I could just flip to the _script_ures about it. Also, the preparation time was good for me anyway. I was feeding on and being grounded in the Word of God. Review 1.
