Hey, folks!  I'm about to play in a RT Tourney, and I need soem info.  I have just bought a new Salamander army off of Ebay which I plan to use (or if my friend needs a army, I'll play my Ulthwe Eldar).  I was speaking to a clerk at the store (not the guy running the game), and he passed along some of the rules.  He said he wasn't sure, but in this 1700pt game we must have at least 40% troops (no problem), at least 2 full troop squads (no problem), and no more than 10% weargear (BIG PROBLEM).  Is it possible to do that?  I could understand if you are playing a gotta win attitude army that would be understandable.  I'm making out my sheet for the Salalmanders, and I honest to God can't get the weargear below 22-24%.  I'm not taking massive amounts of stuff...just the run of the mill stuff already put on the people and vehicles.  A 75 pt. Whirlwind is counting (by itself) as a 75 pt. piece of waergear. Any suggestions or info on past experiences?  I wan't be be fair, but getting below 15% sounds highly unlikely. Thanks... Guy

amounts of stuff...just the run of the mill stuff already put on the people and vehicles.  A 75 pt. Whirlwind is counting (by itself) as a 75 pt. piece of waergear. vehicles are not wargear.  Vehicle upgrades count as wargear.  Armory weapons for characters count as wargear, as do wargear armory purchases.  These ALL count as wargear (everything on the armory page, basically), and nothing else counts.  Your whirlwind, rhinos, etc. are NOT WARGEAR, but the heavy armor and smoke you buy for them do count. I'm hoping the Salamanders are going to be worth it.  The problem I have is I bought this army on Ebay, and although I have some pics, I have absolutely no idea how the troops are set up.  I know by sheer number that I will have 5-6 Space Marine squads, but I have no clue (outside of the fact the guy told me Two Heavies which could mean anything) what the ratio of weaponry is.  Kind of a crapshoot, but what the hell! I hope you have the codex, step one. Step two, go with one meltagun as your special weapon choice and one flamer as your heavy choice for most of your squads.  You need to move a lot in most games, and the flamer and melta options will be nice for play.  A veteran sarge with each full tactical squad having something chunky will add a lot to their whupass, and I think you'll fare decently. RTM

What do you play, RT?  I've read your posts over the years and we've talked before, but I don't remember what you run on the field. I play a highly mechanized vanilla marine force. I generally field an inexpensive shooty command squad in a rhino, A tooled up tactical squad in a rhino, two small shooty tactical squads in razorbacks, two of [predator, whirlwind, vindicator], 2 to 4 land speeders of multimelta or basic tornado, a land raider crusader full of tooled up assault scouts or non-pack assault marines, and add assorted dreadnaught, jumppackers, and shooty scouts to taste and points. I almost always have everyone either infiltrate or drive.  I face a lot of eldar, so rhinos and razorbacks are my best friends. RTM
