For a great essay about the state of the Church, read the Op/Ed piece _What is the real Spirit of Vatican II ?_ in Envoy Magazine's Jan/Feb 1997 issue. Mike Aquilina, editor of New Covenant Magazine, has a real good finger on the pulse of the Church's internal struggles with Vatican II. Let's discuss! http://www.envoymagazine.com/ Ken Hallenius === Need an opinion? Get the right one

Let's discuss!         Dear Ken,         Sorry to take so long to take up your invitation to discuss. I read the article quickly and it seemed to say much of what I believe too.         The Second Vatican Council is above all a call to a renewal of spirit for the Church and for each Catholic.  The fifth chapter of Lumen Gentium seems perhaps one of the most important teachings of this great Council

I think those who, like Hugh on this list, think that the most important teaching of Vatican II is on freedom of conscience (as he has expressed it more than once) and that this somehow gives Catholics the right to dissent is utterly unfaithful to the actual teachings of Vatican II

Oh please!  I've never seen or heard of Mother Angelica trying to 'roll back' Vatican II.  That's ridiculous. JBrewer' ******************** Jason B. F. Brewer This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ********************
